This is a procedure utilizing a fluoride-enriched product that is applied on teeth surfaces to protect them against dental caries. Fluoride application is a simple and easy procedure and it is recommended mainly in childhood to strengthen permanent teeth against dental caries. It is especially useful between the ages of 6 and 15, i.e. the period the permanent teeth erupt.
It is performed with the use of either special fluoride gels that come in a variety of fruit flavors to choose from, or with a fluoride varnish and coating applied with a brush. Fluoride application should be scheduled to be repeated every six months to all children as well as to anyone wearing the conventional orthodontic appliances (braces).
